Management Team Biographies

JAMES BARHAM, Chief Executive

James Barham was part of the team that founded and successfully floated Liontrust Asset Management Plc where he established and managed the institutional business. Following a period at Intermediate Capital Group Plc, James founded River and Mercantile in September 2005, with the backing of Sir John Beckwith and his Pacific Investments team led by Mark Johnson. James is Chief Executive at River and Mercantile and also has specific responsibility for Institutional Marketing.

JULIAN CRIPPS, Chief Operating Officer

Julian was a founding member of Liontrust Asset Management Plc. In 1998 he joined Barclays Bank Plc and for seven years held a number of strategic consulting and commercial planning roles across a broad range of financial sectors. He joined River and Mercantile in January 2006. Julian is Chief Operating Officer at River and Mercantile where his primary responsibility is to develop and manage a highly efficient, robust and scalable operating infrastructure.



JULIAN CRIPPS

HUGH SERGEANT, Head of UK Equities

Graduated from the London School of Economics with a degree in Economics. He joined Gartmore in 1987 as a UK equity graduate trainee and moved to Phillips & Drew in 1990. In March 2000 he was promoted to Head of UK Equities at UBSGAM and Chairman of the UK Equity Committee. He joined SGAM in 2002 where he was Head of UK Equities. Hugh joined River and Mercantile in August 2006. Hugh is Head of the UK Equity team at River and Mercantile with overall responsibility for managing and developing the team. As a Fund Manager he will be focused on the UK High Alpha and Core Strategies.



HUGH SERGEANT

DAN HANBURY, UK Equity Fund Manager

Dan graduated from Loughborough University in 1996 with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career at Schroder Investment Management on the UK Fund Management desk before joining the research department for two years as an analyst in the UK Research Team. He joined Investec Asset Management in 2000 and was responsible for the UK Small Companies Fund, The UK Aggressive/Unconstrained Portfolios, he was the alternate manager on the Core portfolios and had specific analyst responsibilities for Industrials and Resources stocks. Dan joined River and Mercantile in October 2006. Dan will primarily be focused on managing our Core, Small/Mid and Unconstrained strategies and he will also have responsibility for co-ordinating the quantitative analysis at R&M.



DAN HANBURY

RICHARD STAVELEY, UK Equity Fund Manager

Richard qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in 1999, before joining the hedge fund boutique Bradshaw Asset Management as an Assistant Fund Manager. In 2001 he moved to SGAM and became Head of UK Small Company investments in 2002. Richard joined River and Mercantile in August 2006. He holds the CFA designation. Richard is Research Director with responsibility for the team research function. As a Fund Manager he will be focused on the UK Unconstrained and Small/Mid Cap strategies.



RICHARD STAVELEY

MARK THOMAS, Managing Director, Retail

Mark spent 13 years from 1993 at Credit Suisse Asset Management becoming a Director and Head of UK Retail Sales and made a significant contribution to the growth in assets from £60m to £3.6bn during this time. Mark joined River and Mercantile in August 2006. Mark is the Retail Managing Director at River and Mercantile where he has responsibility for the development of our retail business including marketing and relationship management with these clients.



MARK THOMAS

NICK SLATER, Director, Institutional Clients

Nick graduated from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Commerce. He began his career at Mercer Investment Consulting, advising UK pension funds on a variety of investment issues. He joined Mercury Asset Management (now BlackRock) in 1997 as an Account Director, managing a range of UK institutional clients. In 2001 Nick was appointed as Director of Marketing & Client Service at Attica Asset Management, and moved to Fidelity as an Investment Director in 2005. Nick joined River and Mercantile in 2007 as Director of Institutional Clients. He is an Associate of the UK Society of Investment Professionals. At River and Mercantile, Nick works with James in developing and managing relationships with investment consultants and institutional clients.
